One Fall Wrestling recently had an opportunity to speak with one half of the GCW Tag Team Champions, Eddie Osbourne. I consider myself lucky he didn’t go David Schultz on me for a couple of the questions.
OFW – You’ve wrestled all over, won a lot of championships and recently celebrated 10 years as a pro. What drives you, motivates you? Is it the competition or the glory of titles or something else?
EO – 10 Years doing something is indeed a great accomplishment. Hell in today’s world half the people cannot even commit to ten years of marriage or a relationship. A ten year old car is a relic. Luckily for me I am a stubborn bastard and have a pretty large ego. I seem to feed the ego best when I am in the ring. I know I am not as good as I was, and that is my fault, but I believe I am still able to manipulate the crowd and be a positive asset to any event I am on. So ego mixed with a hell of a lot of fun, with great locker rooms of good dudes, is the reason I am still motivated and enjoy the heck out of being a weekend warrior.
OFW – You recently captured the GCW Tag Team titles with the Hardkore Hick. What do you think of the competition in GCW? Do you see any serious threat to your titles?
EO – I think the “HardKore Hick” Jeff Black and I will be the staple in the GCW Tagteam Division, unless they decided they don’t want to use us or we decide we want to do something different with our time. I can say this because currently we are one of the only teams they have right this minute. Hardkore Hick and I won the titles against a non-regular team of Johnny Wave and Highlander Robbie MacAlister. All that being said I believe the roster itself is very strong and some very talented wrestlers fill the GCW Ranks. When you add up the great local Ontario Talent that ranges from veterans like Reggie Marley, to guys who have been around a long while like Hayden Avery to guys who are 3-4 years in like Joey Allen and then add all the former WWE/BIG NAME guys it’s a place that you always have to bring out your best or you will lose and your spot will be taken. I could see El Sombra and Shocker teaming up to challenge for the belts in the near future. Sombra is very skilled and underrated meanwhile Shocker is newer but full of piss and vinegar and ready to go.
OFW – You’ve wrestled some of the greats of this industry including Steve Corino, Samoa Joe and most recently, Rhino who teamed with Reggie Marley to try to take your tag titles. What goes through your mind when you see someone like Rhino across the ring from you knowing that he wants your gold?
EO – Rhino is a jacked up mofo who definitely embraces the name Rhino. I just got out there and have a shitload of fun though. I mean I try to bring it hard because I know if they catch me just half assing it they will guzzle me and I will be looking up at the lights as the referee counts three. (Think Kamala beat me in a minute). It’s great to be in there with such talent though as you can gage yourself and see how you stack up against a guy who made a full time job of this and wrestled all over the world against the very best. It also means you are in the main event and making main event money on
the show, so there is nothing wrong with adding a little more to the envelope at the end of the night. As for Steve Corino, I violently assaulted his asshole with my thumb numerous times in our matches in 06-08, and you know how he gets me back? The bastard makes a thumb in the bum t-shirt and sells it worldwide. So now when I employ the strategy of sticking my thumb up my opponents ass to throw them right off their game plan, I hear twerps in the crowd say ”Hey look he stole that from Corino.” You can purchase your official Steve Corino “Thumb in the Bum” t-shirt by going to http://worldofcorino.com
OFW – You don’t seem to get along with alot of fans. I know I’ve yelled a few things at you myself. Does it matter to you that fans seem to dislike you so much?
EO – I could care less who likes me or dislikes me. I usually say pretty mean stuff or do offensive things just to piss people off. I like to make children cry and adults so upset they want to punch me in the face by hurting my opponent and telling the crowd/person it is their fault. People like to be in control of themselves and to create such a hysteria when I am out there it makes me happy. A doctor Walt Arokot did an article on Jessy Jones and myself which examines why I am such a jerkoff. You can check it out by going here http://ontariowrestlingsindyelite.com/art/xeddiejessyshrinked.htm
OFW – What’s the strangest stipulation you’ve wrestled under?
EO – I have wrestled in all kinds of stipulation matches, but Extreme Wrestling League Show has slapped me with a couple odd ones. I guess it just goes with the name of the company. I recently wrestled in a triple threat tko match by finisher only. So I was eliminated as I was hit with Steve Brown’s finishing maneuver… but I really wasn’t knocked out just sore from the slamming to the mat; the match just started. Ah well the events there are getting better and better and I enjoy doing battle with guys like Alessandro Del Bruno and Johnny Wave who frequent their roster.
OFW – We know you also train others to become pro wrestlers. What’s the best part of training other wrestlers?
EO – The money, the help postering and flyering of events and ofcourse getting my ass drove around to the matches is the best part of training people how to wrestle. It is also great to see the trainee come into their own. I enjoy watching them wrestle matches and know how damn hard they have worked to get to where they are and how they can do even more if they get the chance/make the chance to do so.
Right now “EZE” Eric Cairnie and Joey Allen are two very very talented junior heavyweights that I worked with. Eric is just under 2bills but he knows how to work and is as determined to win as anyone I have ever known. This guy gives everything every match and should be on every event going. Joey Allen is just over 2bills around 220lbs and this guy has come so far. It wasn’t natural for him. He has come such a long way and is in fantastic shape and starting to really do his thing. Look forward to seeing how they progress in 2012 as their times are definitely now.
OFW – What do you think is most important in training to become a professional wrestler?
EO – First off if you want to go and make it to the WWE then go train with them in Florida or a guy like Lance Storm who has a great relationship with them and can get you a shot. It is not the only way to make it but it is by far the best way to do it. I think the most important thing in training is having the heart or being a stubborn bastard so that you never give up and keep going hard.
OFW – What’s next for Eddie Osbourne? More victories? More titles? More angry fans yelling at you?
EO – Not sure what is next. Most likely all of the above mentioned. I don’t feel like quitting after a decade, even though some days are not friendly to my body. I figure I will keep mainly wrestling for the Pure Wrestling Association; www.PWACanada.com. I would like to get a school going and have Juan Ortiz teach some new blood, and have Geza Kalman come on down and lend all his knowledge. This year I started to take some booking outside of PWA and CWE so I will probably try to keep doing that and having a lot of fun.
