We had a chance recently to talk to Buck Gunderson about his career, the companies he’s working for and the belt he’s holding. Needless to say, we were entertained.
OFW: What inspired you to become a professional wrestler?
Buck Gunderson: Seeing skinny kids wrestle in baggy pants on indy shows.
OFW: How did you get the name “The Entertainer”?
Buck Gunderson: I got the nickname “The Entertainer” because I started as a referee. I did not want to wrestle. Due to the current standing of professional wrestling I was contracted to BSE at the time as an “entertainer”. This meant if management told me to wrestle I had to and much to his amusement “Bloodthirsty” Bob Kapur pitted me against a number of opponents.
OFW: You are involved with WrestleCrisis 3D – A Pro Wrestling Tribute to Video Games. For those who might not know, What is WrestleCrisis?
Buck Gunderson: WrestleCrisis 3D is just what you described. A pro wrestling tribute to video games. To elaborate, what you will see at a WrestleCrisis show is the best wrestlers in Ontario wrestling as your favourite video game and comic book characters in a full pro wrestling show!
OFW: What can we expect to see at WrestleCrisis 3D on January 8th?
Buck Gunderson: You can expect one of the most fun live wrestling shows you have ever attended. I don’t really want to spoil anything, but in past shows we have had such matches as The Gotham City Street Fight and The Mushroom Kingdom Flagpole Match. Expect to see video games come to life… in 3D!
OFW: We know you wrestle for a number of promotions all over. How do you like the schedule and the travelling?
Buck Gunderson: I like to wrestle as much as possible and 2011 allowed me to wrestle more than the 2 years prior. The travel comes with the territory. Sometimes it can be fun and sometimes it can be a nightmare. But in the end it has always been worth it.
OFW: You won the GCW Brass Knuckles championship last year and still hold it. What are the rules for the Brass Knuckles matches?
Buck Gunderson: Indeed I did and it has been a mixed blessing. The Brass Knuckles Championship is the Title of a grueling division. The matches are No Holds barred, No Disqualification, No Time Limit and Falls Count Anywhere.
OFW:In November you wrestled Pauly Platinum at Interspecies Wrestling in Montreal. Can you tell us what wrestling for Interspecies was like?
Buck Gunderson: Wrestling for Interspecies has been one of my goals since I first stepped into the ring. They were in fact an inspiration for WrestleCrisis. My match there with Paulie was my first time wrestling outside of Ontario and it was an honor for it to happen on an ISW show. The show was one of the most fun ones that I have ever seen.

Buck Gunderson: Well to start things off I will be wrestling for CWA on January 7 in Cornwall. It is then on to WrestleCrisis in Toronto the next day. 2012 is already shaping up to be a great year.
